One thing that isn’t often spoken about is how hard it is for men to approach women with romantic intent. It’s actually one of the hardest things we ever have to do and that’s the reason why the vast majority of us only ever do it while drunk and specially defined scenarios like a bar or a club. Well I don’t want to be that way anymore and have decided to get over this fear once and for all so to that end I’ll be approaching 2 women every day for 50 days and writing about what happens.
And just so we’re clear; this isn’t about ‘getting laid’; it’s about breaking through my personal limitations and learning to become a much stronger man. When a guy approaches a girl he doesn’t know, every one of his insecurities are shoved right into his face in technicolour HD and it’s in that moment that he really finds out what he’s made of.
It’s time to find out what I’m made of. Let’s do this.
See the whole challenge here.
Day 36 – woman number 1 – unknown
I was taking a pilgrimage to God knows where earlier on this morning when I saw a pretty middle eastern girl walking towards me. I stopped her and said she looked amazing, but she just looked me in the eye with a puzzled expression before scurrying away at high speed. The funny thing is that this came less than 24 hours after I wrote about how I’ve become so comfortable with approaching women that I now radiate a vibe that has me never getting bad reactions anymore. I guess that’s the universe giving me a hashtag bitch slap for being so hashtag cocky!
Woman number 2 – Houdah
I met Houdah in a side alley near Liverpool maybe 20 minutes after I suffered that crippling rejection at the hands of woman number 1. I was stood munching chicken while composing a Whatsapp voice note for a friend when I saw her walk by and we made eye contact. Now I totally liked the look of her but I also had spiced poultry in my mouth and a iPhone in my ear, so I carried on with what I was doing and left her to do the same. However; a few minutes later, having finished both my chicken and my Whatsapp voice note, I was inexplicably stood in the same spot when she walked past once again and made eye contact with me once again.
I didn’t have it in me to let her walk by twice without saying hello so when I saw her again, I thought hashtag fuck it, ran up to say hey, and within less than a minute we were heading off to a coffee shop together. Along the way, she asked me where I wanted to go so I informed her that I had no idea but my inherent masculinity wouldn’t let me admit that, so I’d just keep walking until I found somewhere nice and then act like that was my choice all along!
Once I found us a coffee shop, we ordered matching soya lattes and spoke for so long that I almost ended up being late for my business meeting. One thing that grabbed me about Houdah was that she looked like she was from the Middle East; so when I spoke to her I expected to hear a stream of broken English and apologies for said English. But that’s not what I heard, instead I heard a stream flawless English spoken with a Northern accent. Who knew?
She said she saw me looking at her the first time she walked by and that I made her laugh because I was staring hard without blinking. She pretty much said that she could tell that my thirst was real. Now I’m gonna tell you exactly what I told her which was that I did no such thing and there was no ‘thirst’. I merely gazed in her direction with a laid back demeanour and casual eyes that blinked to just the right degree, no more and no less!
Anyway, one thing that’s interesting about doing this challenge and meeting so many different people is noticing the different energies that they give off. Houdah had a very strong and composed vibe to her, which considering that she runs her own security firm doesn’t really come as a surprise.
Anyway, once I realised that I was on my way to being hella late for my meeting, I told her I had to bounce and managed to talk her into coming outside to take the selfie you can see above and recording the video you can see below.
Thoughts
When I first spoke to Houdah in the alley and I asked her to have a coffee with me I didn’t really think she would. She said she was on her way back from her lunch break so I didn’t think she’d have the time. But that said; I took the punt anyway and as you can see, said punt paid off nicely. Now there’s a subtle hint buried deep within the grammatical structure of those last three sentences. One that I would like you to not only acknowledge but take deep into your psyche and embody until the very moment your heart stops beating.
But I can’t force you to do anything you don’t want to do!
